Honeybee is a very special kitty who came to
our clinic last month. She is very
lucky to have found her new owner, Angela.
Honeybee has a condition that caused her to be
born with very tiny eyes. Her eyes are so
small that she is unable to see. If that
doesn't make life hard enough for a young cat,
Honeybee spent the first 5-6 months of her life
as a stray kitten living under a porch in
Milwaukee
with another young kitten. A local cat
rescue got a call about the two unwanted kittens
and went to retrieve them. Imagine their
surprise when they found that one of the little
kittens was completely blind! They were
shocked she had managed to survive.
Not only did she survive the first few months of
her life blind and as a stray, she had really
learned how to get around well and had a
wonderful personality. She was sick and
infested with intestinal parasites, but the
rescue took a chance on the little blind kitten.
They began nursing her back to health but had
little hope anyone would want to adopt a kitten
such as this.
That changed when Angela Ticcioni stopped
at the pet store to purchase cat food for her
other cat, Tigger, and saw a flyer for Honeybee.
It was love at first sight and she headed over
to meet the newest member of her family.
Honeybee has been living at Angela's for
almost 6 months now and is about 1 year old.
She is thriving on her love and affection
and loves her brother Tigger. She has
learned her way all around the house and gets
along incredibly well. At her first visit
here, she had our exam room mapped out in a
matter of minutes and just made herself at home!
This is a remarkable little cat with a
remarkable past.
Honeybee’s owner, Angela, works at a
handicapped riding facility called Field of
Dreams Farms near
Mequon
,
Wisconsin
as a North American Riding for the Handicapped
Association instructor.
On occasion, she has taken Honeybee to
meet the patrons of their facility.
She is always warm and friendly and is a
great inspiration to the elderly and handicapped
since she herself is a handicapped cat.
Her blindness does not stop her from
welcoming everyone and making fast friends.
Angela plans on using her more as a
therapy pet for the residents of the
Alexian
Village
of
Milwaukee
, an elderly wellness center, to bring hope and
inspiration to the elderly and handicapped
individuals that reside there.
The residents of the Alexian are
currently making a special Christmas stocking
for Honeybee and the other pets at the
therapeutic riding facility.
Honeybee can’t wait to see what she’s
getting for Christmas!
Our clinic has nominated Honeybee as the
Wisconsin Veterinary Medical Association Pet of
the Year! We feel she has a great chance
of winning the award since she has such an
amazing story as well as an amazing outlook on
life! Thank you Angela for taking a chance
on Honeybee and entrusting us with her care!
